Improve Your Thinking With AI: Make Better Career and Life Decisions

TJ Walker shows how to use AI as a thinking partner for major decisions. Instead of asking AI for answers, prompt it to list factors, risks, and pros and cons. He walks through examples like evaluating a job change and switching careers, then uses AI's output to think more clearly before deciding.

Ultimize. One of the most overlooked uses of AI is improving how you think. Most people use AI just to get answers, but you can also use it to challenge your thinking. Let me show you how. Imagine you're deciding whether to accept a job offer, perhaps even a promotion within your company. Most people make this decision emotionally or based on limited information. Instead, you go to AI. You explain your situation. For example, I have a job offer that pays more but requires a longer commute and more hours. My current job is stable, but it has limited growth. Now you ask, what factors should I consider in this decision? AI will give you a structured list. Now you're thinking more clearly. Then you ask, what are the potential risks of accepting this job? Now you see things you may have missed. Then you ask, what are the risks of staying in my current role? Now you have balance. Another example, you're thinking about changing careers. You ask AI, what are the pros and cons of moving from retail to corporate sales? Then you ask, what skills would I need to succeed? Then you ask, what is a realistic timeline for making this transition. Now you're making an informed decision. Very important to stress, you're not letting AI make the decisions about your life and your career. Ultimately, you make the decisions about your life, but you can do it in a more rational, reasonable way by getting the perspective of AI, giving you more background and framing questions the right way. Here's another example. You're working on a project and are unsure which direction to take. You describe both options to AI, then you ask, compare these options and highlight strengths and weaknesses. Then you ask, which option is more likely to succeed and why? Now you're seeing your choices more clearly. Your exercise is simple. Take one decision you're currently facing. Explain it to AI. Ask for factors, risks, and alternatives, because better thinking, better questions lead to better outcomes.
