The best way to get good at small talk is to not try so hard. Don't put all this pressure on yourself. You don't have to be amazingly witty or funny or charming. All you have to do is have fun. Go into any conversation with the idea that you're just gonna have fun. It's small talk because you're not right out of the gate saying what's the meaning of life? What is your biggest goal to have in life? Asking questions about smaller things, more mundane things. Ask open ended question what do you like to do for fun? What's the biggest challenge you have in doing this silly thing we're doing right now? What sport have you tried lately? Simple questions. You just need to get the other person sharing something about themselves and share something about you. Really listen and ask more open ended questions. If you do that you'll not only be good at small talk, you'll enjoy it. And again.
