The Final 2 Seconds of Confidence Projection

TJ Walker explains how to end a presentation strong: step back, smile at the audience for a few seconds, show genuine satisfaction, then take questions. If you look pleased with what you just said, the audience will think it went well.

So you're going through your speech, everything's going well. You look the way you want, your tie, your dress, everything is the way you planned. You've gone through the slides, no problems, nothing froze, no one fell asleep. You're feeling good, you're at the end. What do you do? Thanks. Any questions? And you run away. The problem is when people see that if you look like you can't wait to get out of there. If you feel like. If they feel like you feel like you're a fraud, you're about to be exposed. If you stay up here one second more, it's going to chip away at the perception of competence on your part. People are going to feel you're not confident. So my recommendation, it's a small little tip, but very effective. As soon as you finish your presentation, take one step back, a little bit of a smile on your face. Look at people just for a few seconds, and look like there's no place else in the world you'd rather be. You are completely confident and you're pleased with how you did this. Now, you're not arrogant, but you're pleased. You think it went well. Because here's the thing, there's a crowd psychology. If you look and act like you felt it went well, then the audience is going to think, oh, it went well. This person's pleased. It must have been a good speech. It's a subtle little thing, but it can have a huge impact because you can have great speech. If you end looking like you think it was awful, there's a part of the audience thinking, well, he didn't think that went very well. I guess it didn't go very well. Leave on a positive note. And again, it's just a simple function of step back, smile for a couple of seconds and look at people. Then you can say, I'm happy to answer any questions. I'm TJ Walker. Thanks for joining me.
