The Power of Artificial Intelligence: How OpenAI Is Revolutionizing Communication

TJ Walker breaks down OpenAI's latest moves: free access to ChatGPT, a desktop app, and voice cloning now available to regular users. Mira Murati explains the company's strategy of rolling out features gradually. Walker plans to show his own digital clone and weighs the speed of adoption against ethical questions.

But it is improving and I've been assured by the technology platform I use, which happens to be Delphi AI, that things are really in the works to improve that and to make it much faster and that that's going to happen not in 10 years or five years or a year, but really in the next month or so. So a lot of things are happening very, very quickly now, according to the Times. It makes a different, different experience. I want to play with you a partial clip that explains this in more detail. So, so let me, let me make sure I share the audio all the way. And my colleague Ben under my name has just posted the link to this New York, New York Times column. So let me go ahead and share this clip that goes into some of these details at greater length. So I'm sharing my audio. I'm going to keep it on a smaller screen because I don't want anyone accusing me of stealing copyright. So with me on the screen, it, it makes it a more arguable case that I'm not stealing the, the intellectual property. Let's take a look. So this is from open. I'm going to fast forward a little so we can get to some of.
The meat, including our free users. We'll be showing some live demos today to show the full extent of the capabilities of our new model, and we'll be rolling them out iteratively over the next few weeks. All right, so let's get started. A very important part of our mission is to.
Now I'm assured this is not an AI, but I can't help but notice that when someone says we'll be rolling these out iteratively, it sounds like an AI wrote it. So it does make me wonder if they used AI training. Write the script. Because I've never actually heard someone use that word in a sentence that way. But this certainly appears to be a real human being explaining this. Here's part of the significance that I want to highlight here. It's the sheer fact that this company, which no one had ever heard of until five minutes ago, is able to talk about its products. It gets front page news coverage in the New York Times, which is arguably the most influential news outlet in the United States and certainly one of the most in the world. And the New York Times puts the full embed of its video here because it knows so many people are fascinated by this technology. That's, that's in part the significance of why I'm playing.
To be able to make our advanced AI tools available to everyone for free.
Making these AI tools available to everyone for free. Again, I'm not saying Chachi GPT is the best thing in the world. I'm not an investor in them or OpenAI. I'm not saying that they're not doing some things recklessly that could cause a lot of problems. There are numerous ethical dilemmas and issues facing this technology or any technology. But what she just said there, I do think is highly successful is highly important. Making these tools accessible to everyone in the world for free. And these are tools that not too long ago, major corporations, governments were either didn't have access to at any price or were spending millions of dollars on the city of New York. New York city government spent $600,000 on artificial intelligence to clone the voice of the mayor to make information about the city more accessible to citizens last year. I'm not saying they shouldn't have. But what they're spending a fortune on a year ago is today can be done for really a few hundred dollars on at least some platforms I'm aware of. And it certainly seems like, According to what OpenAI is announcing, it is going to be available for free either right away or very soon. Let's listen a little more to this presentation.
We think it's very, very important that people have an intuitive feel for what the technology can do. And so we really want to pair it with this broader understanding. And we're always finding ways to reduce that friction. And recently we made ChatGPT available without the signup flow. And today we're also bringing the desktop app to ChatGPT because we want you to be able to use it wherever you are. As you can see, it's easy, it's simple, it integrates very, very easily in your workflow.
I'm going to fast forward to a few other parts that I think are of significance. But again, it wasn't that long ago when if a startup company said to the New York Times, oh, we want you just to put our own promotional video on the front page of the New York Times, the New York Times would have said, sure, we're happy to please send us a check for $500,000 for advertising. But this is considered so groundbreaking, so newsworthy, so fascinating to the readers and the viewers of the New York Times, that the New York Times just puts it up there. And that does say something. Let's listen more.
We have hundreds million people, more than 100 million, in fact. They use ChatGPT to create, work, learn.
And so this hundred million people using ChatGPT has been talked about a lot. But you know, we're all used to big numbers all the time. And Facebook has what, 2 billion, 3 billion users now? It doesn't sound like that much. Well, everyone forgets. You know, it took years and years and years before Facebook got to 100 million. It took decades for TV and radio to get that kind of an audience. And ChatGPT did it very quickly in a matter of months. So this is profoundly transformational and how quickly the world has embraced artificial intelligence. And I use it in my business for things like titling these videos and helping with newsletters. It saved time. But that's not really what's transformational. I think what's transformational is how it is going to completely change the way people communicate around the world. Because let's put this in perspective. I've been harping on this, seems like for years, but it's only been a couple of weeks. To me, the real significance of artificial intelligence as it relates to the average subject matter expert, consultant, trainer, small business owner, or for that matter, startup founder or even CEO of a big company is that all of us have to spend all most of our time communicating on a daily basis, whether it's speaking or writing. Really it's a combination of both. What do we do? Chances are, what do you do? You have to talk all day long to clients, to prospects, to the media, perhaps to investors, to stakeholders, to employees, to vendors, to subcontractors. We're spending all of our time communicate. Very few of us are literally out digging ditches and doing some form of hard manual labor. We're communicating. And so much of what we communicate is in fact messages that we have to repeat. They're repeatable messages and we do in fact have to repeat them and do repeat them on a regular basis. And it's made me. And I'm sure you think, if only I could clone myself. Well, guess what? You actually can clone yourself now. And not your entire body and your organs and your heart and all of that, but your ideas, your thought process, your intellectual capital can now be cloned. And if you're new to the show, then you haven't seen this before. But I am going to show you my own clone in a few minutes. We'll talk about this. Madhav says hello. Madhav, good to see you today. Elizabeth has stopped by and says I'm using your one page advice in my live event this week. Elizabeth, I don't even remember what is my one page advice. That does bring up an interesting point. Quite often I'll ask my own digital clone about some aspect of public speaking or presentation skills or communication skills and it'll give me this answer. I think, wow, that's fantastic. I didn't know that. And then I realized, well, I had to have known that because it's only pulling from things I've said and written. And then I'll think back and I'll realize, oh yeah, I think I did do a video on that or a blog post on that 14 years ago. The clone has a perfect memory. I have a fallible memory on all human beings have a fallible memory. Elizabeth, what are you referencing on the one page advice? I see you smiling. So thanks for that post that I want to share a little more from this latest announcement from from OpenAI. OpenAI is obviously getting a lot of attention. They they're the ones who brought out chat GPT. But there has been an explosion of investment in really anything to do with artificial intelligence in the last two years. And so many breakthroughs from so many people in the industry. It's hard to keep up with everything. It can make your head spin. Let's listen a little more from this video release from OpenAI.
