This is a transcript excerpt of TJ Walker speaking (to a client, Kathy) about his updated media-training offering. He outlines a blended-learning approach that combines pre-work (his book and online course), intensive in-person practice (emphasizing 8–10 on-camera repetitions in a training day), and follow-up reinforcement (a Skype session about six weeks later, monthly media videos, and ongoing access to the online school). He also states a flat fee of $7,500 per day that includes a one-year program experience.

Hi, Kathy, it's good to hear from you. Thanks for thinking of me. Would love to work with you and your clients again. Always happy to pop up to Greenwich and do some media training. Things have evolved a little bit since the last time I saw you. What I have found is just the popping in with a camera for a half day or a day in and of itself just isn't enough to really help clients that much. So I have a little more of a blended learning experience. We do still, still do things by the day, but now a typical scenario would be if I'm working with an author or financial expert. We pick a training day, say three weeks from today. I give them a copy of my book Media Training, a Z, ask them to read it, get them to look at some videos, and most important, send them through an online media training course so they get used to recording themselves, watching themselves, practicing some of these skills. That way when we get into the training, there's a lot less of me talking and a lot more of them actually doing interviews. The biggest change since you and I work together is I find that I've got to get people on camera at least eight to 10 times in a day of training so that they really have these skills down and becomes a part of who they are. It's built into their muscle memory. It's not just an intellectual understanding. The other thing I do now that's very effective is about six weeks after the training, we do a simple Skype video like this together. We're live and I have the person either do a practice speech or I do one more interview with them. We record it, I send it back. It only takes about 15 minutes, but it really locks in the skills and gets them to continue thinking about these issues. The other thing I do is I give people follow up in the form of a media training video once a month, if they want it. Once a week or once a day, they can get audio tutorials or text tutorials, any frequency, any format, plus access to the online media training school so they can rehearse at any point. I'm going to send you a text proposal, but this spells it out, it's very straightforward. 7,500 a day. Doesn't matter if they're here in New York City at my TV studio or in their office. And that includes a year long experience. We don't break it out separately. So whether they just want me for the day or they want all the other bells and whistles, the price is the same. Love to work with you. I will send you some more information in a moment and give you a call. Thanks.
