This is a public speaking tip and a media training tip of the day. This is going to sound so obvious. Why is TJ even saying this? But I'm telling you, I experience this all the time from clients, colleagues, other people. And here's what it is. You have to give a presentation, perhaps live Skype video, perhaps even an interview. Perhaps you're doing a video of a speech for someone. You're on the road, you still got to do it. I understand that I have to do that as well. But when you're making a video, don't have an unmade bed behind you. Especially in these days with so many issues, bedroom related and workplace related tied together. I think the less we get people thinking about the bedroom when you're talking about something business related, the better part of it is just taking a few seconds look at the camera, stand up and look and see what's behind you. Really look at it from the standpoint of someone on the other end receiving it. Quite often it's simply a function of putting your laptop on a stack of books or just angling it higher, perhaps standing or putting it in different directions so we don't see an unmade bad. It's a messy look, it's a sloppy look, and it's a distracting look. Aim your video camera. Aim your webcam someplace else. I'm TJ Walker. I teach people how to speak more effectively.
