Have you ever gone stale when giving a speech or presentation? Now, great comedians quite often will have the discipline of completely throwing away every joke they have and starting over from scratch each year. It takes so much more work and more effort, but they do that so they don't go stale. Now, you might not be a comedian, I know I'm not. But you may have certain subject matter, certain niches that you speak on on a regular basis for weeks, months, years, decades. Sometimes there is the danger of going stale or you're so bored by it you're going through the motions. Here's the fine line test. You may have a story from 30 years ago that still really works with your audience. It helps them understand the message, get a better sense of you, give them a sense of what can happen, and even if you're not that excited about still really helps that audience. In that case, you should still use it's kind of like if the Stones put on a concert. If they only play new music in the last year, it might be more fun for members of the Rolling Stones, but it's not going to be as much fun for the audience, people who've come for those satisfaction hits and all the other hits from the 60s, 70s. So you've got to keep in mind your audience. What I recommend is really think about each set message, story example you give and ask yourself, are you getting tired of it? Is it really essential? Is there a chance I have a better, more recent case study story example, story to tell? If so, try to update it. It'll be better for you, and that will often rub off and be better for the audience as well. I'm TJ Walker, coming to you, I hope, in a way that doesn't seem stale.
