Hillary Clinton being made fun of, mocked for her special requests for her speaking engagements. A week or so ago, reports surfaced about Hillary Clinton's contract through her agent, Harry Walker Associates, for her public speaking gigs, this one with UCLA for $300,000. Now, it's always fun to bash politicians and mock them, but I actually found her request to be quite sensible, rational, and a sign of someone who takes public speaking very seriously. She asked for water to be present. Water with a little lemon. Not soft drinks, which is not a good thing to be drinking when you are giving a speech. Not coffee, but water and room temperature water. Very shrewd. That's what protects the voice. That's what's easiest for a speaker. She also requested that fresh vegetables and hummus be present in the room before. That way she is not weighed down, but has energy. She requested pillows be put on the chairs so that if she's sitting for an extensive hour, hour and a half Q and A session, she's comfortable the way she's want. Now, they also ask for rehearsal time. They have people go through to make the room exactly the way she wants. Folks, this is good preparation. This is showing respect for the audience. This is letting the audience know that whether you agree with me on everything or not, I want to be comfortable so that I can give you my very best and not have to worry about whether you can hear me or whether I'm in pain or tired or anything else. So, folks, I'm being bipartisan here. Ronald Reagan gave serious, serious attention to public speaking as well and the stagecraft of it, and spent a lot of time rehearsing. So rather than use this as an opportunity to mock a politician and say, oh, that's like Van Halen asking for special colored M&Ms, I do think it's a time to learn and learn what people who are very serious about communicating through public speaking do each and every time.
