What's the best way to communicate when delivering a toast? Toast are often occasions at happy times. Weddings, anniversaries, major celebrations. So for starters, you have to look at this as a joy, as fun. Too many people look at it as oh, I've got this big homework assignment, let me go write and rewrite and study. No, it shouldn't be some big ordeal. It's less important what you say than the sense that you're exuding joy, good feelings, fun. You might not go down in the hall of fame for wittiest toast ever, but the simplest thing to do? Pick up the glass of champagne, the wine, whatever it is you're using. Say a toast to whether it's the birthday boy or the birthday woman, whether it is the bride, the groom. Look at them, toast them and then just talk about one positive thing about them. If it is a wedding, talk about a story that's not embarrassing to the wedding party that just talks about something that you think shows a positive character trait in that individual. If it can be a little funny, even better. But if it's just a heartwarming story about an experience you shared with the person you're toasting that isn't all about you, but just is something fun and nice about the person you're toasting and that's it. Smile, raise your glass and have a drink. The whole thing doesn't need to last more than a minute or so. Do that and you will be seen as a class act and as someone who knows how to deliver a toast.
