TJ WALKER - THE HABIT INFLUENCER - Personal Development | LIVE STREAM

TJ Walker explains why you need to test your PowerPoint slides in the actual room with the real projector. What looks fine on your laptop often becomes unreadable from the audience's seat, so if people can't instantly understand it from the back of the room, cut it or change it.

So you've created that perfect slide. You spent a lot of time on it. You've got the color right, the graphics right. Everything is great. It looks fantastic on your computer. You're all set, right? Wrong. You actually, at this point, have no idea what the slide is going to look like to your actual audience. It does not matter what it looks like on your computer screen. Slides can easily look great on your computer screen or your laptop, but look awful to the audience. So if you're going to do your due diligence, you need to get to the room where you're going to project it. Use the projector that you'll be using for your presentation, hook it up, project it, and then go to the back of the room or back of the theater, back of the auditorium, and look at it and ask yourself, can you even tell what it is? If there's text, and I advocate you don't use text. But if there is text, can you actually read it? There is an extraordinarily high percentage of PowerPoint slides. I see that. When you look at it from the back of the room or the middle of the room, you can't tell what it is because the people in the front row have cut off the view or the people in front of you have cut off the view of the bottom part of it. There's text, and you can't read it from that distance. There's images, but there's so many that they're small and blurry when you're looking at it from a distance. So please remember, your audience is not going to be experiencing the slides 14 inches away in front of your laptop. They're going to be looking at it from 20, 30, 40, maybe 100ft away, projected. So look at it. Test it from the final format from the venue where your audience will be experiencing it. And if it doesn't look great and isn't instantly understandable, change it or delete it.
