This is a YouTube live stream titled "TJ WALKER - THE HABIT INFLUENCER - Personal Development" featuring a conversation between TJ Walker and Steven Elrod at the Scleroderma Foundation conference in Nashville, Tennessee. The discussion focuses on media training and raising awareness about scleroderma, an autoimmune disease.
Hi, I'm TJ Walker with Media Training Worldwide. We're here at the Scleroderma foundation conference in Nashville, Tennessee. We're in the middle of a media training workshop. I'm here with Steven Elrod. You've been going through the media training. You have prepared your three messages. So if the media stops you and says, hey, this famous person has now been diagnosed with this disease, what are your three messages?
So the main point, first thing that I want to get across is, is what scleroderma is. Scleroderma is an autoimmune. Autoimmune disease that is an overproduction of collagen. Autoimmune means the body attacks the body. It creates all this collagen, and it deposits it all over the body. Then that collagen basically solidifies. Now, sclero, meaning hard, and derma, meaning skin, doesn't just mean you have hard skin. Scleroderma can be systemic, meaning it involves the entire body. It can involve the organs. It can involve your muscles, ligaments, tendons, joints, basically everything in the entire body, depending on what type of scleroderma you have. Now, that's my first message. The second message would be to get to patients that it's an autoimmune disease. And it can vary. It's not always the same. It can manifest itself in just the lungs, or it can manifest itself in the liver or kidneys. It's not every patient out there is different. Every patient has their own story. Now, basically, number three would be, anybody can get scleroderma. There are so many people out there that don't know they have this disease. And that's why this foundation, what we're doing here, is so important because the awareness needs to be brought up. We need more people to know about this disease so that they can be diagnosed at an earlier, earlier on in the process so that they can get the help they need, see the doctors they need. And one of the best ways to do that or research the disease is go to the Scleroderma foundation website, scleroderma.org and research the disease, find out what it is, learn more about it.
Okay, great. Clear, simple, easy to understand. Well done. Now, let's step back a minute. What else have you taken away from the media training session so far?
Some of the little things that I really never paid attention to. Smiling on camera. When I see other people smile and they're smiling on video that I'm watching, it makes me smile. It makes me happy. When I'm in front of the camera. I've noticed so far today, I have this blank look on my face. I'm sick and tired of that because I see it on video and it does. It's not blank. Now, I'm trying not to do that. It does nothing for me. And I see other people do that, and it's such a little thing, but it helps so much.
Great.
Yeah.
All right, Stephen, thanks so much. I'm TJ Walker from Media Training Worldwide, reporting from Nashville.
