TJ WALKER - THE HABIT INFLUENCER - Personal Development | LIVE STREAM

A short transcript excerpt from TJ Walker's live-streamed personal-development talk offering pragmatic advice to a viewer (Monica) who struggles with public speaking. Walker reframes speaking as a solvable habit, uses a garage-cleaning metaphor, and prescribes recording and reviewing short videos repeatedly (multiple three-minute cycles) as an accessible practice.

Monica writes that she's been struggling with public speaking her whole life and has especially been working on solutions in the last 18 months. I'll give her some quick tips. So, Monica, I appreciate you being candid. Certainly public speaking is something most people don't like. Most people feel like it's a struggle. But I want to simplify this for you. Public speaking is not something that has to be struggled with and coped with and dealt with and fought for a lifetime or 18 months or 18 weeks or 18 days. It's something we can really solve today. If you just want to roll up your sleeves, it's like me telling my wife, oh, I'm struggling with cleaning our garage. I don't know where to start. I'm looking for the best broom. I want bigger bag. That's just an excuse. If I want a clean garage, I just have to go out there and start cleaning it, Start throwing stuff away, putting things in piles of here's stuff that I can throw in the trash. Here's stuff I give to Goodwill, here's stuff I give to friends, and before you know it, it's going to be clean. Public speaking is almost that simple. You don't need to learn new technology. You don't need special cameras. You just need to speak. You need to record yourself. You need to watch yourself. Now, I understand you don't like watching yourself. Most people don't. But not liking to do something is different from saying, it's hard to do or it's a struggle. It's not hard for me to clean my garage. I just don't like doing it. It's not hard for you to speak. Absent some physiological problems, we just don't like to record ourselves speaking. But you can become better today. Heck, in the next 18 minutes, you could become a lot better. Record yourself speaking for three minutes. Watch it. That's another three minutes. Do it again. That's three minutes. Watch it again. That's 12. You can be doing this three, four times. I guarantee you, you will be a better speaker after just 18 minutes. So I'm very sympathetic, but I also need you to just do it. As my wife tells me, just clean the garage. I'm telling you, just speak video. Record it. Watch it. I know you don't want to do it, but you can do it. It's not hard to do. Good luck.
