A short live-stream segment (TJ Walker) giving a media-training and public-speaking tip: when reporters call, record a brief video response, email it as an exclusive to the reporter (so they may use the full unedited clip), which yields practice, broader reach, and control over your message. The clip ends with Walker's self-identification and a link offering free books at mediatrainingworldwide.com.

This is a public speaking tip of the day and a media training tip of the day. If a reporter calls you and perhaps they get your voicemail, leave a message, or they call you, you speak very briefly. They really just have one question. They want your reaction to something in the news. Here's what I do. I will answer the question, but I'll do it in a video. I'll come into my studio right here, I'll answer it in a video and then I'll email them the video and I'll say, hey, this is exclusive to you. Not on my own website, not on my YouTube channel, not on Facebook. Quite often they'll say, fantastic. So they'll use my video and the reporter will pull text out of it to put the quote in the text story. If it's a text or online story, they'll use the full video. It gives me more experience and practice speaking. It gives me a larger audience and, and it allows my viewpoints to get out unedited to the media outlet. So if it's going on a New York Daily News website, for example, where I've done this, they're not going to edit the video down to just 12 seconds. They're going to put the whole video there. So I might have a 90 second statement on the issue of the day. So it's a great technique. Very few people do it. Reporters tend to appreciate it. More public speaking experience for you, more media experience for you and a way to get more of your message out to the audience. It's a win for everyone. I'm TJ Walker. I teach people how to speak more effectively. If you want more tips and tricks on how to be a better communicator, you can get a couple of my books for free.
