There's no such thing as a great sound bite in the abstract. You can't simply read a webpage or newspaper in general and tell if that's a great sound bite. Why do I say that? It's because a sound bite is good if, and only if, three things are true. Number one, it's 100% on your message. The sound bites are not running the show. Your message is running the show. Number two, there's no unintended consequences, nuances, offenses. And number three, you're personally comfortable with it. If I give you a cricket analogy to use in your sound bite and you don't watch cricket and you don't understand it, you're probably going to feel stupid using a cricket analogy. Don't use it. You might prefer a symphony music analogy. Or you might prefer football or soccer or baseball. Some other analogy. Some other sport. Use what you like. If you're uncomfortable with it, it's going to be difficult to say it with a straight face during the interview. Don't use it. So remember, all three things need to be true. Got to be on message. No offenses. And you're personally comfortable with this sound bite because if you feel like it's cheesy or silly or ridicul, you're going to feel awkward delivering it. You also want something that if you see it 10 years from now and you Google your own name, you're not embarrassed by it.
