Presidential candidate Jeb Bush is a big proponent of education reform, specifically charter schools. And he frequently talks about his involvement founding a charter school in Miami. Now, folks, intelligent people can have disagreements.
On education reform and the pros and cons of, of charter schools. But here's the real problem for Jeb Bush. It just looks a little too cute, a little too slick to constantly trot out, ostensibly as a big sign of your success, to mention a school as really helping things of something you're proud of, an accomplishment and then forgetting to.
Tell people that, oh, by the way.
The school was a huge failure and it was shut down.
Something Jeb Bush is encountering now, which.
Is something almost all first time presidential candidates face, is there's simply a much greater level of scrutiny out of every word coming from your mouth when you run for president. If you're a governor, a statewide candidate, there simply aren't the eyeballs examining every single word out of your mouth. And let's face it, all of us in real life occasionally frame things in a positive light. Doesn't mean we lie. And Jeb Bush has not been accused of lying. Here he is accused of leaving something out that would make the average person have a completely different conclusion.
For example, if I brag to you.
About a fact, the fact is I was named the most outstanding Latin student of my high school in 1979. Sounds impressive. Whatever you think of me. Or Latin, that sounds impressive. It doesn't sound as impressive when I tell you the rest of the story. The rest of the story is I was the only student taking Latin that year at my high school. Obviously not a very impressive feat. And that's essentially what's happening to Jeb Bush. You don't get credit for reforming education, making things so much better than the public schools. If the school you created basically went down in flames because of financial mismanagement, now this is not going to be the sort of thing that destroys Jeb Bush's presidential campaign. It's a minor, minor blip to me. The interesting thing is, how does he and his staff react to this? Do they learn from this do they realize, okay, we have to scrutinize every single word, every single speech coming out of this candidate's mouth to protect ourselves, or do we just keep on going? I tend to think that Jeb Bush is someone who's going to learn on the campaign trail. I'm not predicting that he wins the Republican nomination at the moment, but he does seem like a smart person who has at least the capacity to learn on the campaign trail. We'll see.
