This live-stream episode (TJ Walker, Jan 6, 2017) teaches how to motivate an audience to take a specific action. Walker instructs listeners to first identify the exact action they want (buy, hire, vote, approve, etc.), then brainstorm and chronicle every possible motivating message, prioritize that list, and distill the top few reasons/messages that will drive the audience to act.

In last week's program, I asked you to isolate exactly what it is you want your audience to do. Is it to buy from you? Hire you? Approve your budget? What is it you want the person or people you're speaking to to really do? Now, what you've got to do is brainstorm on all the ideas, messages, things that are going to motivate your audience to do what you want them to do. So chronicle it, write it all down, come up with a big list and check it twice. Figure out exactly what it is and then put it in priority. You've got to come up with the top handful, maybe even fewer ideas of exactly what it is that will motivate your audience. Whether it's one person you're trying to communicate to get you to marry you, or it's one person to hire you for a job, or it's 50,000 people and you want their votes, what is it that's going to motivate them to do that? Figure out what it is, boil it down, and really try to isolate the top handful of reasons or fewer.
