Short YouTube live-stream segment (TJ Walker and colleagues) offering brief, practical tips for navigating social interactions at office/holiday parties: attend the party, talk to more than your comfort zone, have fun but avoid suggestive comments, discuss safe personal topics (pets, kids, holiday plans), and drink in moderation. Closing includes a toast and holiday wishes from Media Training Worldwide.
Happy holidays from all of us here at Media Training Worldwide. I'm TJ Walker. Just wanted to give you a couple of tips on a particular speaking challenge you might have this time of year. Speaking to friends, colleagues at the office party. This gives a lot of people stress. Here's one. Go. Don't just avoid it and say, oh, I'll play it safe and not go. You should definitely go to the party. Jennifer, you have some tips.
Try to make an effort to talk to more people than those you're most comfortable with. Branch out, Mike.
Try to have fun at the party. It's not root canal. If you're not having a good time, people are going to pick up on that and not want to be around you. Jess, don't say something that's even mildly suggestive to a co worker. This is an area where you're really on thin ice, even if you work for the most liberal of organizations. You mean don't do this. No, don't do that, Chris. And talk about personal stuff. Don't just talk about business. This is a time to have fun, but keep it safe. Personal stuff. You like to talk about your dog. Keep it on safe ground. What your kid is doing, what you're doing for the holidays. Final tip, if you're going to drink, that's okay. But be moderate. Use restraint. There's nothing wrong with what I'm doing. Water, A little seltzer, water, ginger ale. It's just as good. Cheers to you and your loved ones from all of us here at Media Training Worldwide.
