Oh, hi. I wasn't really planning on saying anything. I didn't prepare a speech or talk for you today. But, you know, we're here. Let me just wing it. Why would I say that? Why would you listen to someone who says that? That's an awful way of starting any presentation. And yet I see it all the time. You probably do too. You may have even done it yourself. People get insecure about a presentation they're going to give, so they try to lower expectations with the audience by saying, oh, I didn't prepare anything. That doesn't lower expectations. All that does is lower your perceived value in their eyes. That lowers your perception of competence in their eyes. So even when you haven't had a lot of time to prepare, never tell your audience you didn't prepare for them. That is telling them, hey, I don't respect you. Your time isn't valuable. Nobody likes that. Instead, just speak. Say something interesting and valuable to your audience. Don't make excuses. Nobody wants to hear them. I'm TJ Walker.
