TJ WALKER - THE HABIT INFLUENCER - Personal Development | LIVE STREAM

TJ Walker argues that daily print newspapers are obsolete and won't survive. He describes Orange County Register journalists being asked to deliver papers themselves, then contrasts that with his own digital-only business model as proof that print is a dying industry.

Signed to the Times. Journalists at the Orange County Register in California are now being asked to deliver their own newspapers. Folks, this is not a good time to be a newspaper reporter. Reporters in California for the paper I just mentioned are now being asked to deliver their papers. Now I could just imagine someone spending tens of thousands of dollars to go to the Columbia School of Journalism, working their whole life to be a journalist, and now they're getting up at three in the morning to put papers in a plastic bag and walk door to door. Folks, I don't wish any newspaper ill will, but at some point people have to adapt or change. I can't run my business the same way I did 20, 25 years ago. 25 years ago I wasn't on the Internet and you know, I was able to survive, barely, but I couldn't survive if I weren't on the Internet. Every day now, and I see this constantly, people refuse to grasp new reality. I just had a copier salesman email me and call me moments ago asking how we handle all of our print needs from my company. And I said, sir, I don't mean to be rude, but we don't have print needs because we don't print. Everything we do is digital. And at some point those who sold tablets for people to carve tablets for their commandments and other proclamations had to wake up and realize, we're not going to sell any more tablets. There's a thing known as a printing press and at some point print organizations are going to have to acknowledge the same thing. Yeah, yeah, there'll be exceptions. Coffee table books with pretty pictures of coffee tables will still exist. But I just, I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would want news. Daily news, hours and hours and hours after its news, after it's been revealed, printed on paper and delivered. That is a business model that is crumbling every day and there's going to be nothing left soon. So the journalist there, they need to start making plan B a reality.
