Espn anchor brett mchenry in the news for being obnoxious. So look, folks, we can all have bad days, grumpy days, rude days, but a couple of big differences. If A, you are a star reporter for a major TV network that is seen by millions and B, it's captured on video. Brenda McHenry was caught on tape saying just really nasty things to a low paid woman working as a parking lot attendant. She criticized the woman for her weight, her teeth, her looks, her education and her class. She really didn't leave much out. Now, she wasn't yelling and screaming, but her words were incredibly nasty, vicious, and frankly, ugly. Here's the problem now some have come to her defense and said, why is ESPN suspending her for leak? She didn't violate any journalistic ethics. She wasn't on the job. Here's the problem. She's in show business. That's what television is and that's what television sports is, even when it's sports news. And in show business, you're selling an image. Part of the reason she I'm not commenting on women or young women. People in general, men and women, get anchor and reporting jobs on TV is they're better looking than most people. They're hired in part based on their look. Not everyone, Howard Cosell was an exception, but in general, that's a huge, huge plus. They're benefiting from their good looks. So when people see this ugliness come out of this woman's mouth, it's like ripping off a mask. And, and now you see the real person. It's an ugly, ugly image. And this is why it's a PR problem for ESPN and more so for this particular reporter in question. These days, you have to realize it's not just Big Brother with a camera. It's not just when you're there on the sidelines with the mic that you have to worry about accidentally cursing or something. It's everywhere. Big Brother. It's not just Big Brother, it's Little Sister. It's Medium Neighbor. It's cameras everywhere. If you do something truly obnoxious, you have to be prepared for the whole world to see it, to pass judgment and to comment on it.
