Chapters
President Obama attacked in the media for his choice of suits. And forget this chewing gum. President Obama at an economic conference in China. And I do feel a little sorry for any political leader in this situation. Apparently, there's a custom at this particular conference and many conferences to wear the native garbage of the host country. Well, President Obama had a choice. He could wear his traditional Western business suit and risk insulting all the other leaders of the conference in the host country. But if he wore his native Western garb, he's not criticized at home. But people there don't like him at the conference. If he wears the native garb, then he gets mocked, ridiculed at home. And that's what happened. Again, a lot of people criticize him, saying he looked like a character from the Hunger Games. Silly. He looked ridiculous for wearing a traditional Chinese suit with a different collar, no tie. There's really no winning in a situation like this for any foreign leader. I think President Obama did the best thing. He focused on the audience at that summit, building relations with leaders. So I'm not criticizing for that. Here's where I will criticize President Obama. For those of you who think I don't criticize President Obama now, he was caught chewing gum at the conference. I think it was basically getting out of a limousine. Here's the thing about chewing gum. It makes any adult caught doing it on camera, on video look silly, look ridiculous. People commented that they thought he looked like some silly rappers. That may be going too far, but we've seen it happen before. John Edwards used to like to chew gum and was mocked and ridiculed routinely for it. Basic rule of thumb, if you are in the spotlight, if you're a world leader, if you are someone where there's a chance a video camera could be on you, don't chew gum. It just looks silly. So I will take off points for Obama for gum chewing.
