It's question time from some of our online course learners. This comes from FUMI off the UDEMY platform. So, dear TJ took your course several months ago and enjoyed it, but I'm working now on how to write my nomination. I believe she's talking about her nomination to speak at the TED conference. What is the best way to write the nomination to be considered? This is very important to me. I would appreciate any pointers whatsoever. Well, for me, I think the most important thing is do you have ideas that are genuinely interesting, unique, different, and haven't been said a thousand times? Now, it's been said that there's no completely original idea under the sun. And yeah, that's true. But the vast majority of speakers, in fact the vast majority of people who apply to speak at TED are just saying generic, trite things that everybody's heard a thousand times. So the biggest issue is, do you genuinely have a new idea that strikes people as interesting, as important, as resonating with an audience? Here's what I have found. People who spend all their energy and effort, and I'm not saying this is about you, but if you're spending all your energy and effort on getting into ted, that's the wrong approach. Your approach should be do you really have the most interesting ideas in the world that are unique to your expertise, and are you sharing it in every way possible? Al Gore must have given his basic environmental speech thousands of times for decades before he ever spoke at TED and before they ever made a movie about it. So what comes first is the idea, the insight you have, the passion. And then speak out everywhere. Speak. Speak on YouTube, speak in webinars, speak out on your blog every day. Do that. Do it with passion, and have some unique, useful ideas. TED will come knocking on your door.
