A short YouTube live-stream clip by TJ Walker advising non-native English speakers not to obsess over perfect grammar. He argues audiences will forgive grammatical errors if the speaker delivers interesting, useful ideas with passion and stories. Walker illustrates the point by noting public figures who've 'mangled' grammar yet communicated effectively, and closes with a sign-off and social media call-to-action.

Stop saying you have a grammar problem. This is something I hear from speakers all over the world saying, well, tj, you know, my grammar just isn't that good in English. I'm worried. I'm nervous about it. Don't be nervous about your grammar. If you're speaking in a language that isn't your first language, people are willing to give you some allowances. They're going to cut you some slack if, and this is a big if, if you have something interesting and useful to say. If you're delivering interesting information to people, they're not going to care about your grammar. Frankly, here in the United States, we've had several presidents. I'm not picking on any one current occupant. We've had several presidents who've mangled their grammar. Didn't seem to hurt them in the polls. They were still able to communicate effectively. So if you're speaking in a language that isn't your first language, the better the grammar, fine. But that shouldn't be your first priority. Your first priority should be delivering interesting ideas with passion, with excitement, with stories that are useful to your audience. Focus on that before you worry about your grammar. And whatever you do, don't let your lack of perfect grammar keep you from speaking. If you have a great message, if you have ideas that are going to help people, put it out there. The grammar, that's a minor, minor issue. I'm TJ Walker. I help people speak their best because how you present your ideas is the number one factor in your success.
