Advanced speaking tip of the day, be in the moment. Be right here. Now, what do I mean by that? So many speakers may sound comfortable, look comfortable, may be gesturing, may have good eye contact, but there's just something in them where it's almost like a staged actor giving a performance. You can tell they're thinking about what they're going to say 2, 3, 4, 5 seconds from now to make it all sound smoothly. You can tell they're trying to remember what to say. Great speakers don't do that. They'll pause, they'll use the same tones as they do when they're just having a conversation with one person. Now, in order to do this, in my experience, you have to practice. You have to have talked about that subject a lot. You have to have deep expertise. You're not trying to remember all the words in just the exact set way. You're focusing on the ideas. And then you're so comfortable in your own skin on the stage, in front of the audience that you can think and talk at the same time. Now, if you haven't done a lot of this, it's even more of a reason to practice on video. And that will help you get to the point. It's also another reason to speak as often as you can because the more you're in front of people, the harder it is to get nervous. The easier it's going to be to reach that relaxation point where you can think and talk at the same time. That's how you sound. Truly conversational doesn't mean you can just get up and wing it. You're not just making up stuff. You know what you want to say, you know what your main points are, you know what your stories are, but. But you're saying it all in a conversational way, not a memorized, scripted manner. I'm TJ Walker. I help people speak more effectively.
