Are you looking for more tips on how to build basic habits with your kid to be a lifelong strong public speaker? Here's a technique I use with my own daughter. We're at a restaurant. She wants something to drink. I don't just order for her. I say, hey, if you want water, you want juice, ask the waiter, ask the waitress. And she can be a little bit shy, but this is the motivation she needs to do it. She looks the waiter in the eye and says, I would like to have water. Now, that's not the biggest speech in the world. That's not a State of the Union address. That doesn't matter. The basic principle I'm trying to instill here is it's okay to speak to someone in public. There are a lot of people around. It's okay to look someone in the eye. And what I'm trying to get her to realize is, hey, if you speak loud enough so people hear you, they understand you. You can influence them. And the good thing about a waiter is if you tell them what you want, they'll bring it to you. So my daughter's learning an instant lesson. If you speak the right way, you can influence somebody, and they will give you what you want. Maybe not all the time, but at least some of the time. It's a simple lesson. Do I ever get in a hurry And a rush in order for sure. But for times when we're not in a rush, ordering her own drink, ordering what she wants for food, it's simple. It is a type of public speaking, and it's building a skill at an early age. She's only four. I would suggest doing it as soon as your child can talk. I'm TJ Walker.
