TJ Walker interviews Tina Fellows on crafting media pitches about scleroderma. She breaks down what the disease is, its warning signs, and directs people to see a doctor or visit scleroderma.org.

Hi, I'm TJ Walker with Media Training Worldwide, reporting from Nashville, Tennessee at the National Scoloderma Foundation Conference. I'm here with Tina Fellows, one of the participants of the media training session today. What were your messages that you worked on today and tell us about some of the great sound bites you created.
Well, we worked on learning how to pitch the media and we also worked on how to get a good sound bite to the media. For our scleroderma message, we we talked about really getting your target audience addressed and making sure that it's an important message to what they want to hear and about the fact that scleroderma is a disease that we want to get the message out about.
And what is the basic message? If this were a regular interview on local ABC affiliate and they're coming to you doing a general profile of the disease and the situation, what would you want people to know?
I would want people to know that scleroderma is a disease that really hardens your skin. It can make your skin as hard as a rock, and it really can be a hard thing to diagnose, just like finding a needle in a haystack. But if you have any symptoms like redness in your fingertips, bluish fingertips, very cold fingers and toes, go to your doctor. It's better to be safe than sorry. Get it checked out.
