Foreign. Welcome to the daily national and media training Insider. I'm Mike Baco. The NBA lockout continues to go on and, well, there are breaks in the factions of the NBA union right now. So why is this bad news for the NBA and for the union? Well, they're thinking about decertifying. Let's take a look at it from the media message and communication angle of things. Right now. The main spokesperson is Derek Fisher. Fisher is great with the media, giving them everything that they could possibly want. But there are some breaks in the actual union. They are putting out their own blogs, they're putting out their own tweets. The message that they are sending to the public, to the owners, is that they are not unified. That is really the real stumbling point right now in terms of them putting out their message. They don't seem like they're unified front. They don't seem like they have a lot of backing and confidence in Derek Fisher, and they don't seem to have a lot of confidence in their union president, Billy Hunter. So how would this hurt them in terms of a public perception? And how could any corporation learn from putting out a unified front? The first thing that you have to do is you have to take some of the lesser players and not have them going out on Twitter making their own comments, their own commentaries. Boston Celtics player Glenn Big Baby Davis put out a tweet last week that just said, let's just take the deal already. I want to get out there and play. He's not one of the higher echelon players, but there are numerous other players like him who are out there making comments in the media, making comments on their own social media platforms that are not showing a unified front. So whether you agree with the owner's side of things or whether you agree with the player side of things, billionaires and millionaires fighting it out over hundreds of millions of dollars, the one thing that you have to keep in mind is that the players are not putting up a unified communication front. And this is hurting them not only in the media, not only in terms of public perception, but also at the bargaining table. Keep it here on dailynational.com I'm Mike Baco. We'll be back with more analysis once the NBA lockout is resolved or unfortunately continues.
