Should I rehearse my speech? And if so, for how long? And a corollary to this question quite often is I'm better just winging it. I'll be freer, more express. No, that is absolute nonsense. There is no such thing as over rehearsal making someone stiff or stale. It is possible that you can rehearse poorly, that you can rehearse the wrong thing. If you're rehearsing by trying to memorize, yeah, you're setting yourself up for disaster. I don't recommend that you try to memorize a speech, but that's not what a good rehearsal does. A good rehearsal allows you to speak out your ideas to do in an interesting, memorable way. Yes, you should rehearse. You should never give a presentation unless you've rehearsed to the point where you like what you see.
