TJ Walker breaks down Carly Fiorina's presidential ambitions, pointing out she was ousted from HP, lost a Senate race, and played a divisive role in Romney's 2012 campaign. He argues the Republican primary rewards publicity seekers over qualified candidates, turning the process into a circus.
Chapters
Former Hewlett Packard executive Carly Fiorina announces that she may be running for president and is starting the whole process of putting together committees. So Carly Furina may be running for president. Those of you who might not remember her, she was forced out of HP at a bit of a rocky time as CEO and, and then ran for the Senate, lost, was a spokesperson for Mitt Romney in the campaign and stuck her foot in her mouth and caused a lot of problems back in 2012. Now she thinks she wants to run for president. Now, lest you think I'm being sexist and having a double standard, I've often criticized people like Herman Cain and other people with really no credentials for running for president to just throw their name in because it seems like fun. And this is a real problem for parties, particularly one political party in America that seems to have let its primary process become a sideshow, a freak show, a circus, and a way for a bunch of publicity seekers to angle their way to talk shows. So here's the problem Carly Fiorina has is she's never been elected to anything. She's run for office and failed miserably. So what she's really saying is, hey, I have a big ego and I want to be on TV and I want to get a lot of attention. I know I'm not going to be president. You know I'm not going to be president, but let's all pretend. And you're going to have to listen to me. This is just a bit silly, ladies and gentlemen. Socrates once pointed out that there's really three main elements to someone being a speaker. There's the actual technical skill of them speaking, and Carly Fiorina is actually a great speaker. There's the ideas that they have behind them. And I have no doubt that she has mainstream ideas that are in tune with her political party. But the third thing that really makes up whether a speaker is effective or not is who you are. Your background, your bio, your character. And in that regard, Carly Therian is no more qualified or even credible as a candidate for the Republican Party nomination for president, as IM or Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson. I mean, it's just not credible. So I suspect if she goes through with all this, she'll get media attention. She'll certainly spice up the primary debates. And for the TV producers looking for more ratings, to have an attractive woman up on the stage helps with some objectives. The party looks like it is inclusive to women. But at some point, it does make me wonder when the political party, when the Republican Party is going to take over some discipline over its primary process and who gets to be considered a serious candidate and who doesn't.
