TJ Walker (live-stream) advises professionals to use short "talking head" video memos instead of some traditional typed memos. He frames video memos as an easy, low-cost way to practice public speaking, build a reputation as a stronger communicator inside an organization, and become more comfortable and confident over time.

A lot of my clients say, tj, I would like to speak more, but they're not necessarily opportunities. Every day, conferences, big meetings where I can speak. Well, here's an opportunity for you to build your craft. Get better and better and more comfortable. Ask yourself, do you ever had to type a memo to be read by people in your organization? Chances are you do. Well, why are you typing it? Why is that the default method of communication? Historically, it was easy and cheap, but these days video can even be faster and the cost is nothing. So here's my recommendation. If you want to bolster your reputation as a communicator within your organization, perhaps make people think of you as a better speaker, as a communicator, then why not occasionally? Doesn't have to be every memo, but occasionally, instead of typing up that memo to staff, colleagues, associates, do a simple talking head video like this and just send people the video and not send text. Do that, do that occasionally, and you can only get more comfortable and confident as a communicator.
