What's the best way to get hired as a professional speaker? That's a question I hear all the time. Here's the answer. And that is accomplish something of genuine interest to the rest of the world that has nothing to do with public speaking. People want to hear from someone who has genuine, interesting insights and they've actually accomplished something. So when Sully Sullenberger landed a plane in the Hudson river, that was something that many other people had done. It instantly catapulted him to the top tier. Professional speakers. People wanted to hear his story. If you found a company and you were poor and had no education and you did it from an alleyway somewhere and now you're a billionaire, people are going to want to hear your story. People are going to want to to hear you speak. If you've invented something that saves lives, a new technology, a new tool, then you will get speaking gigs. So I don't mean to sound like it's a waste of time to try to seek out speaking gigs if people are not knocking at your door or the phone isn't ringing off the hook.
