TJ WALKER - THE HABIT INFLUENCER - Personal Development | LIVE STREAM

Tip of the day for speaking to foreign audiences when there is an interpreter for audience members who don't speak the same language, you do what I do when I'm speaking in other countries and there are audiences who don't speak English and I don't speak their language, I make sure to get there plenty of time in advance to meet the interpreter. I don't necessarily have the whole speech written out, but I try to familiarize that person with what I'm doing. If there are any slides, I'll show them that I'll talk to them about what we're doing. Part of it is I want them to get used to hearing my voice, get used to the subject matter, get a sense of who I am. The other big factor is pause more, stop, walk more through the audience. This allows the interpreter time to think about it, process it, say it, let people think about it before you're off to the next thing. So that is extremely helpful when you're working with an interpreter is just more pausing in between speaking a little slower. Now I don't want you to speak like this the whole time. Then you've lost all your energy. You sound robotic. So you still want a natural conversational tone in your voice, but you're slowing it down overall by say 10 or 20%. Do that and you have a much better chance of the interpreter successfully communicating your ideas to the audience. I'm TJ Walker. I help people speak their best.
