Hi, I'm TJ Walker and I help people speak their best because how you present your ideas is the number one factor in your success. There's a new administration in Washington, D.C. that means Senate confirmation hearings for the top positions in government. What is a Senate confirmation hearing? It's really a job interview in front of a lot of people with the whole world watching. Now that sounds like your worst nightmare. It can be grueling. I have coached and trained presidential nominees before they go through these confirmation processes and a lot of thought and preparation goes into play. Now you may think, well, I'm never going to face that. There are tips you can learn from Senate confirmation hearings that are applicable to you. Number one, whoever is interviewing you might be rude and obnoxious. Senators can be rude and obnoxious. A CFO at a tech company interviewing you could be obnoxious. You, you need to come across polite, nice, friendly at all times. Number two, tough questions could come up and embarrassing questions. The real key is that you look relaxed, that you don't look like that you don't look scared, nervous, and like, ah, you got me. You want to look pleasant, relaxed at all times. Number three, you need to have thought about questions that are going to come up and to have something to say. Might not be a perfect answer, might not be the solution to all the problems, but you need to show you've given thought to this position. Whether you're going to be the next Secretary of Agriculture or an entry level employee at Microsoft, have something to say for any question that comes up. Follow these tips and you'll have a better chance of getting that job. Question of the day. Please post your comments below.
