So what's the nicest way you can tell a co worker, hey, your speech is boring as all heck here. It's a delicate thing and we don't like to criticize co workers because then they can hate us and they can criticize our speech. So I understand your inclination is not to want to tell a co worker that his or her speech is boring, but if it really is, you're doing them a disservice by not pointing it out. He here's my recommendation. Record it on a cell phone. Record there. Ideally, it's the practice and it's not the real thing, but it could be a speech that your colleague is giving the same speech to 50 different groups of people or 50 different satellite offices and you're hearing it for the first time. What you should do is record the speech on video and say, hey, let's watch your speech together and figure out what's working. Have them watch, if nothing else, the most boring parts. Ask them what do they think the chances are they're going to say, my God, I didn't realize how boring I was. And then what you can say is, hey, you know, this is the part where when we're just in a meeting or in the hallway and someone asks you this question, you talk about the Smithers client who was in this situation, this happened, and it's always interesting and people's eyes light up. Why don't you use that case study when you're talking about this point? That's how you help them. You get them to realize that they're boring and then give them a suggestion based on stuff they already talk about. Do that and you'll really help your co worker give a much better presentation.
