Chapters

I was born into slavery. I escaped and went on to become an abolitionist. I was invited by a bunch of white people to speak at a July 4 party once time, and I told them, this celebration is yours, not mine. You rejoice. I must mourn. Now, that didn't go over very well at the picnic, but it made my message very clear. In time, my side won. My name is Frederick Douglass. What's the real lesson here from Frederick Douglass? It's that sometimes you have to speak the truth as you see it. You may offend people, you may offend everyone in your audience, but if you are right, if you stand for principle, time will look kindly upon you. You will stand for truth and justice. Over time, Frederick Douglass was fearless. He spoke out and went on to become a major statesman and influential player on the American political scene. He is an inspiration to all.
