TJ Walker (The Habit Influencer) explains how Media Training Worldwide uses Skype to deliver remote media- and public-speaking training. He demonstrates a sample Skype interview, emphasizes watching body language (hands, face, eyebrows) to avoid freezing, and describes a workflow where interviews are recorded, played back through a switcher, and paused for pinpointed critique. He highlights that while in-person training is ideal, Skype enables meaningful, on-demand coaching across long distances and at any hour.

Have you ever had a big interview staring you in the face and you wanted to rehearse, but there was no time to fly across the country, fly in some trainer? Well, now you can do it just like that. Through the magic of Skype, we at Media Training Worldwide are training people all over the world at a moment's notice. We can do 1, 2, 3, 4 hours, any time of day or night. Okay, Jim, we're going to do a sample interview right now. Stay in the moment, treat this like it's a real interview. We'll critique it later. Okay, now let's take a look. I want you to look at everything you're doing with your hands, your face, your eyebrows. Remember the number one problem most people have with TV interviews is they freeze. Nothing is moving but their mouth and they don't look comfortable, they don't look confident, they look relaxed. Let's take a look. So that's just an example of how we do the new Skype training here. Now, nothing's ever going to replace in person, one on one, face to face media training and public speaking training. But now, thanks to Skype technology, it is possible to do a meaningful training if you're 2,000, 7,000 miles away. We're here in New York City now. Again, the trick is not simply that you can see me and I can see you on Skype. That's been around a long time. The innovation, the hard part is we have to do sample TV interviews. We record it, we play it back through a switcher and then you can stop it and I can stop it and we can pinpoint exactly what's working well with the interview, exactly what needs to be improved. That's the real key. Again, it's not just looking at each other, it's being able to really have that distant perspective and look at that interview you've just done so you can figure out what works, what doesn't work. So now there's no excuse to not do a training. You can't say there's no time to fly across the country or fly a trainer in. We can do it anytime. Emergencies, midnight, 2:00am you name it, we're here for you.
