Live-stream by TJ Walker (June 11, 2016) addressing how to prevent spokespersons from sounding "canned" or rehearsed in media interviews. Walker diagnoses two main causes (reading a prepared text which destroys eye contact and trying to cram too many messages/details into a statement) and argues that the real problem is poor rehearsal rather than over-rehearsal. Core recommendations: limit to no more than three message points (deliverable in ~30 seconds), prepare several short sound bites per point, remove jargon and long sentences, allow spokespeople to use their own words while hitting the messages, and practice on video repeatedly until delivery appears natural, believable and likable.
