TJ Walker says remote workers need to treat themselves like small children: set a wake-up time, be at your desk when work starts, and quit at a set time. Without these rules, you'll stay up late and eat poorly. You're both the child and the parent enforcing the structure.

I love telecommuting. I've been working from home for a long time. I'm happy with it and I've been relatively successful with it. The reason is I realize I am like a small child. I treat myself like a small child. What does that mean? Well, think of a small child. A small child without any rules will stay up till midnight, will eat nothing but candy, will get sick. Small children need rules. They need to be told, here's bedtime. I'm the same way. Not as far as bedtime, but I have to have structure to my day. I have to be up at a certain time. I have to be at my desk working at a certain time. I have to have a very clear cut quitting time every day. If you want to be successful working from home, I recommend you treat yourself like a child. Now the good news is you're the parent too.
