Ultimize. I want to begin by saying something fair, something balanced, something generous. This was one of the best speeches I've seen Donald Trump give in the last 2 years, and I say that with total confidence, total sincerity, because I didn't watch it. I didn't need to watch it because every single speech he gives is exactly the same. It's like rewatching the same bad movie over and over again, except somehow the plot makes less sense each time. You already know the characters, you already know how the lines go, and somehow you're still shocked at how disjointed it all is. This is a man who's turned speaking into a kind of performance art where coherence is optional, facts are optional, and objectives are, uh, let's just say heavily implied. You don't need to watch a Trump speech anymore. I'm serious. You don't need to sit through it. You don't need to analyze it. You don't need to fact-check it. You just need to look at what happens immediately after he starts talking. Because while he's up there saying, "We're going to hit Iran extremely hard," and then in the next breath saying the war will be over soon, and then also hinting that negotiations are happening, the markets are doing something very simple. They're reacting. Oil prices spike. Investors pull back. Fear goes up. That's the real speech. That's the only translation that matters. The market is saying, we don't understand what this guy is saying, and we don't trust that he understands it either. Because while he's up there talking about hitting Iran extremely hard, while also saying the war will be over quickly, while also hinting at negotiations, The markets are simply doing something very simple. They're panicking. Oil prices didn't just creep up, they jumped up dramatically right in real time from the moment he started speaking to the moment he stopped. And that tells you everything you need to know. Markets are not emotional, at least as emotional as some politicians. Traders are not sitting there thinking, wow, what a powerful speech. They're asking one question: does this guy have a plan? And increasingly, the answer is no. Nobody believes there's a strategy here. Nobody believes there are clearly defined objectives. Nobody believes there are clearly defined goals. What they see is chaos. What they hear is contradiction. And what they feel is risk. This is the only speaker in the world who can deliver 3 completely different messages at the exact same time and somehow expect credibility. Think about it. We're escalating the war. The war is going to end soon. Negotiations are underway. Those are not different parts of the same plan. Those are completely different realities. That's not leadership communication. That's confusion broadcast at scale. And when you confuse people at that level, especially in global markets, they don't sit around trying to interpret your genius. They assume the worst. They assume instability. They assume nobody's in control. And then they price that fear into everything immediately. That's why oil jumps. That's why markets shake. That's why uncertainty becomes the story. And look, this isn't about politics. This is about communication because great communicators reduce uncertainty. They calm markets. They give people a sense of direction. Even if the news is bad, even if the situation is dangerous, clarity itself has value. But when your message is meandering, when it's full of contradictions, when it feels like it was assembled 5 seconds before you walked on stage, you don't calm people down. You do the opposite. You amplify uncertainty. You make people nervous, you make people assume the worst. And in global markets, assuming the worst gets priced in immediately. That's why oil spikes. That's why investors pull back. That's why the entire system starts to wobble because communication isn't just talk, it's policy, it's signals, it's direction. And right now the signal being sent is nobody's in control. We've now reached a point where the smartest investors in the world are basically saying, we have no idea what this guy is going to do next. So let's assume it's the worst-case scenario and act accordingly. This is an unbelievable place to be. That means uncertainty isn't a side effect anymore. It's the core message. It's the brand. It's the strategy, whether intentional or not. And when uncertainty becomes your brand as a leader, every word you say doesn't calm people down. It makes things more volatile. Markets swing more, prices jump more, risk spreads everywhere. That's not strength, that's instability dressed up as confidence. And here's what really stands out to me. It's not just that the speeches are repetitive, it's that they are predictably chaotic. And you can map it out. There's the opening bluster, the sweeping declarations, The vague threats, the contradictory assurances, and then no actual clarity, no roadmap, no explanation of how any of this connects to an end goal. It's like watching someone start 5 different stories and finish none of them. And yet somehow this is supposed to guide global markets, military strategy, and international diplomacy. That's where it stops being funny and starts being expensive. Because when the world's most important economic inputs, like energy, are reacting in real time to confusion, that confusion has a price tag, and everybody pays it at the pump, in the markets, in their retirement accounts, everywhere. If you really want to understand what's going on right now, don't listen to the speech at all. Seriously, ignore the words. Watch the reaction. Watch oil prices spike. Watch markets wobble, watch investors pull back. That is the real audience feedback. That's the world responding in real time saying, we don't see a plan. We don't see clarity. We see confusion. And in global economics, confusion is expensive. It spreads fast, it hits hard, and it affects everyone, whether they follow politics or not. That's why communication at this level isn't just about sounding strong. It's about being clear. And right now, Clarity is exactly what's missing. And that's the real takeaway here. This wasn't a shocking speech, wasn't a surprising speech. It was exactly what we've come to expect. Same tone, the same structure or lack thereof, the same lack of coherence. The only thing that changes is the consequences. And those consequences are getting bigger, faster, more immediate. So yes, in that sense, this was one of the best speeches. It was perfectly consistent, perfectly on brand, and perfectly effective at doing the one thing markets hate most: creating uncertainty. And when uncertainty becomes the message, chaos becomes the outcome. The biggest surprise to me, frankly, is that he didn't do something this profoundly stupid his first term. That remains to me one of life's biggest mysteries. A guy who basically destroys everything he touches, whether it is casinos, the Plaza Hotel, steaks, vodka, professional football. It's amazing to me that he didn't completely destroy the entire international world, political, geopolitical structure in his first term. And our economic structure. Although, to be fair, more jobs were lost by Americans in Trump's first term than any presidential term since Herbert Hoover. But at least he could blame coronavirus on that. He can't blame this on anyone other than himself. And Americans can't blame this on anyone other than the American voters who put him there. Ultimatums.
