Trump’s Personal Lawyer Is Now Attorney General | Todd Blanche Confirmed

Todd Blanche, Trump's personal criminal defense lawyer, was confirmed as Attorney General 50-49, with Republican senators Collins and Murkowski joining Democrats in opposition. Walker argues Blanche will weaponize the Justice Department against Trump's enemies and shield him from IRS penalties, with only Trump's morality as a check on his power.

Ultimise. The Senate has confirmed Todd Blanch as Attorney General by a vote of 50 to 49. Blanch was Donald Trump's personal criminal defense lawyer before joining the Justice Department, and he has served as acting Attorney General since April. Republicans Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski joined Democrats in opposing him, citing concerns about Justice Department independence. Republican Bill Cassidy provided the crucial Republican vote that secured his nomination. Okay, so what do I really think of this? On the one hand, this is shocking and surprising that the Senate doesn't show independence and take responsibility for its advise and consent role in our federal government. Now, the other hand, it's the least surprising thing ever. The fact that Donald Trump wants his own personal attorney, a henchman, a crony, a someone who has demonstrated time and time again he doesn't have a single shred of integrity, that's the least surprising thing imaginable. I can just imagine the job interview. 4 or 5 candidates come in and Todd Blanchard is one of them. And there's really one question. Trump says, okay, tell me you're willing to do absolutely anything I ask you to do without question. And I'm sure there were plenty of others who said, sure, Mr. President, I'll do anything. But something tells me Todd Blanchard says, oh no, it's not that I'll do anything. I'll take whatever you want and I'll do it 10 times stronger. So if you tell me, go investigate, come up with a phony trumped-up charge about a Democratic senator in California, for example, not paying taxes, even though we know he paid his taxes, and you want me to investigate him— oh no, I'm not going to do that. I'm going to investigate him, arrest him, charge him, and throw him in jail for good measure, especially if it's a week or two before the election. And On top of that, Mr. President, I am going to look at any Democrat who's sort of close in the polls in a swing district, a crucial race, and do this. You're not even going to have to tell me. You're not even going to have to post something on Truth Social. Wow, this senator from, from Oregon or from the Senate candidate from Texas looks a little fit. You're not even going to have to do that. Because as your Attorney General, I'm going to ask myself, I'm going to get up and ask myself one question at the beginning of every day. What would Donald do if it A, either lined his pocket more, B, helped him keep control of the federal government so that Democrats couldn't come in and actually follow the law correctly and impeach the president and see what can I do to just alienate, to anger Democrats, moderates, the mainstream media. So, Mr. President, if you select me as your attorney general, that is exactly what I'm going to do every day. And at that point, Donald Trump turned to Blanche and said, I like the cut of your jib, son. And the interview process was over. I do think that's what— so for those of you who haven't followed it clearly, this is the guy who was Trump's personal attorney through the numerous felonies that Donald Trump, uh, was accused of and in some cases convicted of. So this guy's whole mentality is, how can I do whatever Trump wants? And my friends, this is not the normal way America does business. Yes, it is true that John F. Kennedy did appoint his own brother. Arguably, that was not really a smart thing to do. It is true that Ronald Reagan did appoint his own personal attorney, but there was never any sense that Reagan could just tell William French Smith. Okay, go ahead and investigate my enemies. Reagan wasn't perfect, but that just was not a thought that entered the political mainstream back in 1981 or the early '80s. Sadly, we don't live in those times. Here's the biggest thing that surprises me about this attorney general, uh, nomination and now confirmation in the Senate. I'm frankly shocked, shocked that Trump didn't nominate his own daughter, Tiffany. She's a graduate of Georgetown Law School. He'd say, well, the Democrats did it. Bobby Kennedy was, was attorney general. I'm frankly shocked he didn't do that. And then Tiffany could go in every day and say, hey, Daddy, I really want to stay in your inheritance. I want to stay in the will, especially since, you know, Melania is getting a little older and you may have 2, 3, 4, 5 more wives and who many— who knows how many more children. I want to stay in your good graces and stay in the will. So, Daddy, just tell me whatever you want me to do as Attorney General, I'll do. I'm frankly surprised that he didn't nominate. But who knows? Maybe that's how we got these Republicans to vote for him. By all accounts, according from Republican Senator Cassidy, he did in fact decide to vote for Blanche because he concluded the next guy was going to be 10 times worse. Even more stringent election deniers. Here's the thing that frankly surprises me even more. Why didn't Trump simply nominate Barron Trump to be Attorney General? Now you may say, TJ, that's crazy. He's 20 years old. Not only does he not have a law degree, he doesn't even have a college degree. Guess what? It's simply a norm in the United States that attorney generals, attorneys general have law degrees. There's nothing in the Constitution Go through it. Look, I did. It's not there. What's the one thing we know with 100% consistency about Donald Trump? He doesn't care about norms. He doesn't care about standards. He doesn't care about what there's bipartisan consensus on. So the mere fact that there is a bipartisan consensus that attorney generals need to have— and I'm sorry, attorneys Attorney General just sounds too pompous, even though that's the more correct way of saying it. The one thing we know about him is, and not only does he not care about norms or standards, it gives him a rush to break them. It gets him excited. It's better than Christmas any day he can take normal standards of decency and tear them up ball them up and throw them in the garbage can. So I'm— who knows? Maybe that is what he did to lobby these Republicans. Maybe he just said, look, if you don't nominate and confirm this guy Blanche, then I'm going to nominate Barron Trump. And then if you don't support him, I will primary you. I will dox you. I will ask every MAGA to come to your office and home and cause you extreme discomfort. That may have been what did it. And knowing what we know now about Trump, that maybe if, if Blanche does decide to step down, Barron Trump will be the next one. Maybe that was the thing he was holding out, saying, you better do what I say and vote for Blanche, or get ready for Attorney General Barron Trump. Imagine back in the Biden administration, Hunter Biden is being investigated, in fact, by that administration, the Attorney General's administration under Biden. Imagine if Biden had just said I'm appointing Hunter Biden Attorney General, and henceforth there aren't going to be any charges against Hunter Biden. Can you imagine the convulsions our republic would face? Can you imagine the calls for impeachment of President Biden? Can you imagine the hysterics from all the Republican senators saying this is an atrocity? Never mind the fact that Hunter Biden actually has a Yale Law degree. And I'm not suggesting Hunter Biden could have been or should have been Attorney General, but it's no less absurd than the idea of this guy Todd Blanchard. Again, those of you not familiar, Blanchard is the guy who said it's perfectly fine to create a giant, giant slush fund to pay off Trump supporters who were insurrectionists, who were traitors to our country. Give them money because they were doing it to make Trump look good. Blanchard signed off on this whole idea that anything Trump does, he should never be punished by the IRS. Frankly, I would not be surprised if Trump gives a directive to Todd Blanchard this morning, since this morning is his first full day in a normal workday in office, a directive simply saying, henceforth, the IRS will take a 10% victory success surcharge of every dollar into the Treasury and deposit it into Trump's personal account. Why not? If you cannot charge the president with a crime while in office, And if the IRS is never allowed to go after Donald Trump, why not? Why not just— why stop at 10%? Why not 20%? Why not 30%? What's to stop Donald Trump? Because the Republicans in the Senate have said, we don't care. We don't think there should be any accountability. It's whatever Trump wants. And Donald Trump is a well-documented liar, but he is occasionally a truth teller. You know, once out of every roughly 1,000 to 2,000 comments out of his mouth is absolutely the truth. And it wasn't that long ago he stumbled into the truth where he said, what's to constrain me? Nothing but my own morality. It's not going to be an attorney general. It's not going to be an independent judiciary. We are stuck right now with the only check on this thing being Trump's morality. Okay, if that doesn't give you nightmares, I don't know what will.
