Use AI to Become More Persuasive: Better Proposals, Better Influence, Better Results

TJ Walker shows how to use AI as a thinking partner to strengthen persuasion. Describe your goal to an AI, ask for tailored arguments and rebuttals, then rewrite the output to emphasize value and keep your authentic voice. He walks through three scenarios: pitching a manager, drafting a client proposal, and selling yourself in an interview.

Ultimize. One of the highest value skills in any career is persuasion. Your ability to influence people determines your success. AI can help you become far more persuasive if you use it correctly. Let me show you exactly how. Imagine you need to convince your manager to approve an idea. Most people present their idea in a way that makes sense to them, but not necessarily in a way that persuades other people. Instead, you go to AI first. You describe your idea and your goal. For example, I want to propose a new social media campaign to increase customer engagement. Then you ask, what are the strongest arguments I can make to a manager focused on results? And perhaps describe things that you know your manager cares about the most. Now you can get a list of benefits. Then you ask, what objections might my manager have? Now you see potential resistance. Then ask, how can I address those obligations? Now you're prepared. So really use AI to help you think outside your own head, because it's not perfect, but it may give you a better sense of what your manager might be thinking or objections they see than what you're looking at. So that's a great way of using it. Another example, you need to write a proposal to a client. You describe the situation to the artificial intelligence, then ask, what would make this proposal more compelling? Then ask it to rewrite this to emphasize value to the client. Then ask, make this more concise, have bigger impact. Now your message is stronger. Again, before you hit send, you're gonna look at every single word. You're going to personalize it, make sure it sounds like it's coming in your voice, and make sure everything is accurate and honest. Another example, you're trying to sell yourself in an interview, perhaps for a promotion within your existing company. You ask AI, what are the most persuasive ways to present my experience for this role? Then you refine your answers. Your exercise is very clear. Take one situation where you need to persuade someone. Ask AI for arguments, objections, and responses, because persuasion is not about talking more, it's about communicating more effectively.
