TJ Walker left his phone in a car during a six-hour whitewater rafting trip and got zero urgent messages. He argues you're not as important as you think, and that disconnecting regularly is essential for your sanity.

You aren't very important. Now, I'm sorry if that doesn't sound very motivational, but here's the thing. I'm not very important either. What does this mean? It means we don't have to have this on us every second of the day. Recently, I went whitewater rafting, and I just left my phone in the car. Well, six hours went by, and I had to confess, that last hour I was thinking, hmm, wonder how many important emails I'll get. I wonder how many important texts are waiting for me. And after six hours, I got back to the car, and nothing. Not a single important email, not a single important voicemail, not a single important text. A few spam, and I was able to relax the whole day, really get away from things. I urge you, I beg of you. If not every day, at least once a week, figure out some time where you can just leave your phone at home or in your car. You and I are not that important. But our sanity, our ability to get away from everything that is important, please follow the TJ Walker habit.
