TJ Walker argues professionals waste time competing on general advice already available everywhere. Instead, pick a specific niche: a financial advisor might target retirees with under $50,000 or wealthy parents worried about spoiling their kids. Build your expertise and messaging around that one group.

There's an old expression that the riches are in the niches. And it's true. Too many people make the mistake of trying to be all things to all people. You want to be a financial advisor and you want to give general marketing advice to the world? Well guess what, they can get that for free all day long on cnbc. You're far better off specializing in some little niche that you know a lot about. If you're a financial advisor, maybe you're better off trying to figure out how people can retire with more than $50,000 in their bank account or less than $50,000. Maybe you want to specialize in affluent parents who are worried about too much wealth ruining their kids ability to have a successful career because they lack motivation. I don't know what it is, but you do. Don't try to paint the big brush and be old things to old people. Focus on a niche. Please follow the TJ Walker habit.
