Broadway List - Thanksgiving Edition | Theatre Everywhere

Ido from Apples and Oranges Arts walks around Broadway recommending Thanksgiving spots: Schmackary's for cookie tastings, Amy's Bread for sourdough bagels, and Junior's for cheesecake. He also covers theater-oriented offerings like sending cookies to Broadway theaters and watching Broadway performances in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

I'm Ido from Apples and Oranges Arts, and welcome to the very first episode of our inaugural series, Broadway Lists, where we'll be going around Broadway during given seasons and showing you guys the best things to do around here. I'm here in the Shubert Alley. We will be exploring the Hell's Kitchen area and the Times Square area. Can't wait to show you around. We're here at Schmackary's where we ordered 3 delicious cookies: the Candy Cam, the Schmackerdoodle, and the Cookies and Cream. All right, so I always believe that cookies and cream is the best flavor for anything regardless of its cake, cookies, ice cream, et cetera. So we're gonna save the best for last. Let's start with this one, which I believe is the Candy Cam. You know it's good because messy cookies are always better. It's like I'm outdoors camping. Solid 8 out of 10. Next is the Schmackerdoodle. Plain, I'm pretty sure it's just a snickerdoodle, but it's called Schmackerdoodle. The reason I picked it out is 'cause of the name, obviously. So let's give it a shot. Really warm on the inside, but pretty crispy. I'd say like 7.5. The one you've all been waiting for, and by all I mean me. Cookies and cream. Oh, and it has like Oreo crumbs on top. Oh yeah. 9 out of 10 at least. One of the other really awesome things you can do is you can send cookies to any Broadway theater of your choice. You just kind of have to make a collection of them. I'm gonna send it to The Sound Inside on Broadway, which I just saw this weekend with Mary-Louise Parker and Will Huckman. I'm definitely going with the cookies and cream, but I think Mary-Louise Parker I think Parker would really like the butter pecan ones, so I'm gonna add those as well. And then the schmackerdoodle, of course, and the chocolate explosion. So yeah, like I said, any Broadway theater you like, if you see a show you like, or if there's a star that you really like, you can send them cookies and the delivery fee is free. Schmackary's has such strong ties to Broadway, you will likely see Broadway people, actors, theatergoers alike, all gathered to this really small spot here in Hell's Kitchen. So if you have some time, definitely drop by. All right. Cookies in hand, we're gonna head one block this way to go check out Amy's Bread. So we're here at Amy's Bread, which is a little more of a niche spot here in New York next to the Broadway area. It's really cute, cozy little bread space. If you want like a loaf of bread or a bagel, this is the place for you. I ended up ordering a sourdough bagel with peanut butter. As a San Francisco native, I felt like I had to try their sourdough. I'm assuming it's pretty good, so come check it out. So we're here at Junior's, which is the most iconic cheesecake place in the entire city. This is one of my spots to go before a Broadway show or even after. Here we have the strawberry cheesecake, which is their most popular flavor. I would also recommend the tiramisu is a good one and the chocolate cheesecake. They have a special— right now they have a special showing of cheesecakes, pies, etc. over at the actual restaurant. So again, if you're interested in cheesecake, which I hope you are, check it out. I'd like to caption this: No, I'm not a tourist mom. So one of the coolest things that Broadway people do around this time of year is the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Essentially, Broadway performers will perform pieces from their individual musicals. I personally am excited to see what Beetlejuice does. Tune in 9 AM NBC. This is Ido signing off before I head into a sugar coma. Please like and subscribe to our YouTube channel, Apples and Oranges Arts, or go to our website nycoc.org/subscribe. Thanks so much, guys. Tune in for the holiday version. I'm excited about it.
