I am so excited to bring our next amazing writer, Taylor Hatch, who wrote this awesome show called Fly, which she's going to tell you about. Yes, Taylor! Hi, I'm Taylor Hatch. I'm the book writer for the new musical Fly, which is about the pilots who flew in the 1929 National Women's Air Derby, which is a 9-day cross-country air race from Santa Monica, California to Cleveland, Ohio. It featured all women. And it's a little-known event in our history that is pretty awesome. So you'll hear tonight the title song "Fly," which features Louise Thaden, who's a hotshot pilot and world record holder. And we'll join her as she is flying to the starting line of the race, determined to take home the Golden Cup. So please welcome to the stage Katherine Ricafort.
Woo! I see the sun grow brighter. I'm almost out there. I feel my grip grow tighter. I'm only half scared. All at once, I'm weightless. It's a rush every time. Up in the open space, I'll do anything it takes to fly. Up through the clouds I'm climbing, but I don't slow down. Straight past that silver lining, it feels like home now. And though I'm far from fearless, it's worth it when I— Up in the open space, I'll do anything it takes to fly. Feels like I found true love here as I touch the ceiling. When there's nothing left that's holding me down, I'm so alive, I can't describe this feeling. Bring on that old horizon and I'll outpace it. Light up that burning sunset and watch me chase it. Yeah, it might sound reckless, But it's worth it when I'm up in the open space. I'll do anything it takes to fly. Anything it takes to fly. Bye!
