2 years ago I got here for the first time. Excited for the new life I was heading to. My social life is obviously lacking. No time for dancing when there's homework to do. Yes, Dad, I'm on the way. Well, you need to find out how long. I can't be flexible. I have to be back by January 5th. This has already put me behind. You too.
Bye.
Why do I see Yale in the rearview mirror? Why am I headed straight for the last place I wanna be? Things always go wrong around December. Please stop here, I'm leaving out of Terminal D.
Kenny enters the airport and waits for her flight.
At home, Harry buttons up his Air Force shirt and prepares for deployment. The house is relatively quiet. Relatively bare beneath, characteristic of a home belonging to a soldier and an autistic boy.
Why can't they just tell me where I'm going? 20 years of leaving and it never changes. The night before, I never want to go. I've seen the worst of battles. The thing that's strange is I'm most afraid of what I don't know. Why do I see home in the rearview mirror? View mirror. Why am I headed straight for the last place I want to be? Things are hard enough now in December. Wouldn't you know that'd be the time they'd call me.
Flying away from everything I live for. No looking back, don't take a second glance. There's no way of knowing what's in store. I've been through this before, I know this dance. Let's fly, let's fly. Charlie, bundle up, it's time to go. Bundle all the toys up in the sleigh. You are my best friend, Did you know that I really like it when we get to play? Flying behind those zooming reindeer, we're going fast, so Charlie, hold on tight. Oh no, it's snowing. Now it's clear sky. Merry Christmas to all and a good night. That's fun! Watch me fly. Flying away from everything I lived for. No looking back, there's nothing in my way. I'm flying blind through this thing called life. Guess it's my turn to save the day. Let's fly.
