Tom Gellie and a boot fitter show how to modify a ski boot for larger calves by cutting the shell, heat-molding the liner, and inserting a flowerpot stretcher to expand the upper section. Wedges hold the stretch in place.
Yeah, so for people with bigger calves, pressure at the back of the boot around this area Yep. What is something that you can do as a boot fitter here?
We've cut the shell down a little bit and lowered the shell, so that's going to allow us now to stretch the liner out over the top. We're going to put some heat through the top of the boot. I'm going to do what we call flowerpot, where we actually put a flowerpot down inside the boot and stretch the top out. We then add wedges to pull it out so it'll accommodate the larger calves.
