Tom Krieglstein rented a Kia EV for a family trip from Orlando to Panama City Beach and waited 2.5 hours for a full charge, turning a six-hour drive into eight and a half hours. His Tesla Supercharger takes 30 minutes. He says charging times need to drop much faster for EVs to catch on widely.
I am speaking at Florida State University today in Panama City Beach. Yesterday I was in Orlando, Florida on vacation with my family. To make this trip on time, I had to do a six hour drive. However, I have an electric rental car and at home I have a Tesla. And it normally only takes me 30 minutes to do the supercharger to fully charge that electric at home, that Tesla. But I have this Kia electric that last night it took me two and a half a half hours to fully charge it. So my six hour trip turned into eight and a half hours. If this country wants to go electric and we truly want to have electric cars that charge, time has to drop drastically, and I mean even less than the Tesla supercharger at 30 minutes.
