Marsha Herman Benson, former executive director of ACUI, meets a stranger every day. She once talked to nuns on a plane, drove them to a hospital, and later received a postcard thanking her after a family member died minutes after they arrived. She created the Marsha Challenge to encourage daily conversations with new people.

Marsha Herman Benson is a name that you should know. Well, she's retired now, but she used to be the former executive director of acui. And for those of you who've ever met her, know that she is an amazing personality, larger in life. One day she told me a story about how she loves to meet new people every single day. It drives her husband crazy. But one time she told me a story about how she was on a plane and next to her were some nuns. So she started chatting it up with these nuns, built the relationship. When they landed, the nuns didn't have a ride, so she offered to give them a ride again. Drove her husband just a little crazy. And she drove them to the hospital where they were meeting one of their family members. Fast forward several weeks later, she gets a postcard in the mail from one of the nuns that thanked her profusely for driving her. Because apparently it was within minutes of them getting to the hospital that their family member had passed away. From that experience, Marsha created a challenge called the Marsha Challenge marshachallenge, where she challenges you in your community to meet one new person per day. Think about how valuable that could be within your community to increase the number of relationship connections, the sense of feeling welcome, connected and engaged here in this community. Try it out. See what happens if you give yourself the opportunity to experience the marshachallenge and meet one new person in your community per day. My name is Tom, and I am here to help you to engage your people. Until next time. I'll see you soon.
