Tom Krieglstein argues that emotion, not logic, drives most decisions. People remember how they felt, not what you said, so persuasion starts with empathy and emotional connection, not data.

Think you can win someone over with a solid argument or some cold, hard facts? Well, I mean, some people can, but for most people, we're dealing with people. We're not dealing with rational robots. And what that means is we're dealing with emotions that are messy and beautifully imperfect humans. And as Dale Carnegie says, we're creatures of emotion, driven by pride, vanity, and prejudice. Logic sometimes takes a backseat to those feelings. So if you want to influence someone, maybe don't lead right off the bat with data. Lead with empathy and understanding. Connect with the heart, not just the head. And remember, people are more likely to remember how you made them feel than what you said. So if you want to win some over, start with their emotions, not necessarily their intellectual.
